Elektromuze & Night Raven - Electronic Music Records from Ron Imhoff

Electronic Recordings

I've written and recorded two Electronica recordings (so far).

CD: Night Raven

Night Raven is a 3 song EP. I recorded this using some equipment I really love, and still have.

I purchased an old two voice Korg Synthasizer in the mid-80's from a friend of mine. This was a Korg Poly 61, no midi, two voice frequency modulation synth. This was actually used on some of the songs on all but the 3rd Chemistry CD (it wasn't on the 3rd only because I didn't have it with me in Los Angeles).

For percussion, I used a BOSS DR-550 drum machine, and of course everything was eq-d with lots of delay and digital stereo reverb using my Alesis Quadraverb (what a beast).

Songs

3 songs were recorded, and like lots of electronica, no lyrics. These were

  • Altered State
  • Belly Trance
  • Class-M

Class-M "concept"

These were all lyric free. However, on the 3rd tune, for whatever reason, I took some Star Trek sound clips, and used a sampling feature on the Quadraverb that allowed me basically to hit a button to play back sayings by Kirk, Bones and Spock.

The basic idea was that I would use clips from scenes in the original series and put them together in a way that makes a Class-M planet seem like Kirk, Bones and Spock are referring to it as a living entity.

Alright, alright. I'm a geek, but if you haven't figured that out yet, you probably need help.

It came off pretty well, and I'll get streaming MP3 clips from the entire demo up as soon as I can.

CD: Elektromuze - Volume 1

Elektromuze Volume 1 is a full length 8 song CD. This is a much more elaborate record and the instrumentation on the songs as well as the song compositions themselves are much more involved.

Equipmment included the following:

  • Kurzweil 2000 - Manually played and programmatically played using Midi
  • Acid Pro 4.0b (midi software which I programmed)
  • Korg Electribe ER-1 Rhythm Synth
  • Ibanez GIO 6 string guitar equipped with a GK pickup through a Roland GR-20 Guitar Synth

Songs

8 songs were recorded, entirely lyric free.

  • Arrival (5:26)
  • Infiltration (5:42)
  • Indoctrination (7:52)
  • Metamorphosis (4:38)
  • Rebirth (6:34)
  • Unity (6:42)
  • Target World (4:46)
  • Conquest (6:51)

Concept

The concept that I was thinking of when writing and recording this was that something basically invades the planets, infiltrates society, indoctrinates it to its ways, and changes it resulting in a harmonious yet enslaved world and society. This "evolved" society then sets out to repeat the same in the next target world.

As always, its a challenge to try to express a concept like this through music alone. Thats what I tried to do though and people seem to genuinely enjoy it.

Future Elektromuze Recordings

I hope to at some point write, record and release Elektromuze Volume's 2 and 3. However, a timeline really hasn't been established for those.

I will be using addition hardware like a Roland MC-303 I picked up while in Los Angeles last go around.

I'll post streaming mp3s from Volume 1 on this page as soon as I can and stay tuned for developments about Volumne 2 and 3.
